In the contents of this category, I’ll be talking about influence.
Specifically, how the hell I got to where I am now and the things that lead me here. So I’ll reference, or recommend documentaries, artists and other subjects of interest that have sculpted the images that I have created.
I feel compelled to do this because for anyone that has previously been interested in my work on social media, there is a sudden jump in subject matter. Everything changed. Style, method, subject and even the atmosphere of my art.
Previously everything was very one sided, I was determined that my mission was to show the beauty in atrocity, the romance of darkness… everything was quite bleak, looking back on it.
I thought I had a point and found that I was just lost, not sure of what I wanted to achieve, if I even believed my own message and found that my creativity was evaporating.
Like ‘the Fool’ in this image I was emaciated artistically, desiccated creatively, walking a blind path.
On an episode of ‘Planet Earth’, there is a scene where a baby elephant is following it’s mother’s tracks in a sand storm, desperately trying to get to an oasis of plenty to evade certain death in the desert. You see the mother and fellow sibling elephant walk out of the sand onto fresh grass. Then the camera pans out and flies over the sand storm to see baby elephant following the tracks… but in the wrong direction!
I WAS THAT ELEPHANT!
Luckily, a chain of events and information hit home all at once creating a new direction, a new focus, that has ultimately changed my art for the better. I believe, in any case.
The other reason is that, if I find this stuff interesting, SURELY, someone else will.
